BI-O-CHLOR Chlorine Dioxide Generators

  • PDF

Generals

BI-O-CHLOR is a chlorine-dioxide generator, fully wetoperated and thus providing the safest work conditions - which utilizes the reaction between the hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium chlorite (NaClO2), the outstanding performance of the latter being unrivaled in certain applications. Both reagents are used at the commercially available concentration of 33% and 25%, respectively, allowing an easier operation of the system, saving of space and the remarkable advantage of not having to handle highly aggressive chemicals.
Diluition of products occurs directly inside the reactor with not-softened water. BI-O-CHLOR is the only chlorine-dioxide generator using a combined system in which the forced admission of reagents and water is operated while keeping the same reactor under vacuum condition. This makes it possible to meet the following basic requirements: Accuracy - Stability- Safety

Accuracy is achieved by the exact admission of reagents and dilution water via three metering pumps making part of the system and supplied by constant-level tanks

Stability is obtained by avoiding complex valves liable to be affected by purity alterations, cristalizations or vacuum changes, especially in case of minimum dosages.

Safety is ensured by keeping the reactor under vacuum conditions, to avoid the formation of gases which may trigger dangerous situations, as well as by using controls able to prevent anomalous vacuum and pressure values from inhibiting the process. Special attention has been given to ease the installotion, which does not require specific overhead facilities to store the chemicals. All the components coming in contact with the reagents and the chlorine dioxide are made from materials able to resist their aggressive action.

Advantages offered by cholrine dioxide

The remarkable advantages provided by the chlorine dioxide make this product far more preferable for use in disinfection processes than other chlorine-based components

  • Higher capacity of suppressing bad odors and tastes.
  • Higher degree of purification (5 times higher than chlorine by weight).
  • Higher disinfection rate.
  • Higher algae-killing power.
  • Higher capability of suppressing the reducing compounds.
  • Higher capacity of oxidizing heavy metals.
  • Long losting oxidizing strength.

These advantageous characteristics make dioxide chlorine rank higher than chlorine for use in water treatment of drains, swimming pools and wherever water disinfection is required. The residual chlorine analyzer for chlorine dioxide is avalilable as an OPTIONAL.

System make-up

The BI-O-CHLOR SYSTEM is made up - besides the chlorine dioxide generator which lies at the very heart of the system - of a set of other components which allow it to be used as a self-contained unit. In particular, it consists of:

  • a light cement-precost cabin with separate compartments for storing the hydrochloric acid and sodium chlorite - these reagents requiqring to be kept absolutely out of contact with each other to avoid violent reactions giving rise to a very toxic gasous chlorine dioxide. To this end, the loading vanes are provided with doors lockable by different keys, painted with different colours and bearing huge-character indications warning about the content of each compartments.

  • the storing rooms are so designed as to provide also for the tanks containing all the material in stock.

An optional safety system is available consisting of an absolutely reliable test to be carried out during the first stage of supply operation - which avoids accidental mixtures of components. This system is generally applicable also in large-size plants to improve safety conditions.

Main characteristics

  • Gasous chlorine dioxide leak sensing system located in the generotor compartment.

  • Nebulized water-operated cleaning system controlled by said leak sensor to wash the compartment which houses the chlorine dioxide generator.

  • Measurement system with possibility of remote control of residual chlorine present in the treated water - a crucial instrumentation for unattended remote facilities.

  • Switchboard and accessories in a separate compartment to safeguard components' service life.

  • Heating unit located in the compartments housing the sodium chlorite tanks and the generator. This heater allowing operation also at low external temperatures, which would otherwise cause the cristallization of the sodium chlorite.

  • Ventilation of the generotor comportment with flowmeter-controlled air flow.

  • Remote transmission of signals for operative, alarm and shut-down conditions.

Briefly stated, the BI-O-CHLOR SYSTEM is a chlorine-dioxide generator integrated by all those components which enable it to be used in small and medium-size installations in which so far the chlorine dioxide-based dinsinfection technology has proven difficult to implement. The Bl-O-CHLOR construction design makes this system suitable for remote unattended facilities, such as small water supply pipelines serving little urban centers.

BI-O-CHLOR System is:

  • Easily transportable.

  • Easy to use.

  • Safe to the maximum degree.
