For over thirty years, Sodi
Scientifica has been engaged in the
development of systems that
effectively contribute to gaining
greater traffic safety. As of the '70,
its instruments have been adopted by
the Italian police forces, so that
"Autovelox", the trade name of the
speed measurement device, has even
been inserted into Italian language
dictionaries, and are now widespread
in most countries.
The Traffic Division has created
Autovelox, which for many years has
been the word for speed measurement (it
actually appears in dictionaries of
the Italian language) and other
similar products.
The speed measurement of the Autovelox
105 SE is based on the space/time
principle, conceived by Sodi
Scientifica in the '60 and now built
with the latest technology available.
Pair of Class 1 (eye-safe) laser beams
placed at right angles towards the
direction of traffic are being
interrupted by vehicles passing,
enabling speed detection and capture
of digital image. A third laser beam
allows the system to intercept the
position of each vehicle, thereby
optimizing the whole operation.
SPECIAL FEATURES Each violation
triggers two digital pictures: the
wide-angle image provides an overall
view of the detection area, where as
the zoom image gives a close-up of the
rear number plate. Data are first
temporarily stored on hard disc and
then permanently stored on WORM
compact disc. Storing all information
on a non-rewritable CD ensures that
they are original evidences and can
therefore be used in court. Remote
data transmission is also protected
against tampering through the use of
encryption systems. In order to
operate on multi-lane roads and to
frame the number plate, Autovelox 105
SE is equipped with a truly innovative
device: the laser detector recognizes
the exact position of the infringing
vehicle (1st, 2nd or 3rd lane) and
immediately moves the camera set to
the correct location to capture the
event.
The experience acquired through many
years of achievements in the field of
speed enforce-ment has now allowed
Sodi Scientifica to provide a new
version of speed camera site
exhibiting outstanding characteristics.
The AutoBox in Flroence and in tuscany
as wel in each part of Italy, consists
of a vandal protected heavy duty
roadside post with limited weight
andoverall dimensions (75 kg - 1.6 m
high) and its Autoveloxacross-the-road
laser speedmeter. Such sites have
proved to be an effective means for
reducing vehicles speed during road
safety campaigns. The AUTOBOX are in
fact located on trunk roads and
highways where drivers, more likely
than elsewhere, show to have a bent
for violating speed limits and an
automatic speed camera is mostly
important. Not only do these devices
allow for a more effective speed
enforcement, but they also act as a
deterrent over speed offences by
simply being present though not
equipped. The speedmeter may be
provided with a 800 picture camera and
both may be mounted and removed quite
easily. Once installed, AutoBox is
automatically operated with no need
for supervision. This results in a
considerable saving in man power.
